Munters has announced updated climate goals that now include significant reductions in product-related emissions, with validation from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The new targets align with the Paris Agreement’s goal to limit global warming to 1.5°C and reflect the company's growing focus on emissions across its value chain.
The company’s updated Scope 3 target aims to cut carbon emissions from the use of sold products (Category 11) by 51.6% per unit by 2030, using 2023 as the baseline year. According to a 2024 analysis, over 99% of Munters’ climate impact stems from energy use during the operation of its equipment. The company’s systems are widely used across sectors such as food processing, battery manufacturing, and data centers for dehumidification and energy-efficient cooling.
Updated Scope 1 and 2 Goals
Munters also revised its Scope 1 and 2 targets, now aiming for a 42% emissions reduction by 2030 from the same base year. This replaces a previous net-zero commitment and accounts for projected company growth and acquisitions, making the new target more comprehensive.
Focus on Product Development
The broader climate strategy signals a shift in Munters’ sustainability approach, with product innovation taking a central role. Enhancing energy efficiency in product design is expected to be a key driver in achieving the Scope 3 reduction goals.
Quote from Sustainability Leadership
“Our products are a critical part of the industrial infrastructure in large parts of the world, giving us at Munters an opportunity to contribute to our customers’ resource efficiency and consequently, to countering climate change,” said Andréa Haag, Vice President Sustainability at Munters. “We are already investing in innovation that improves energy efficiency, and with these new targets, we are committing to a clear, ambitious, and science-based plan.”
Executive Perspective
“In a world with limited resources, we must act responsibly. The new ambitious targets reflect both our growth ambitions and how central sustainability is to Munters,” said Klas Forsström, President and CEO. “Overall, this means that between 2023 and 2030, we aim to double in size and halve our climate footprint.”
The targets underscore Munters’ intention to align climate action with business expansion, integrating sustainability deeper into its long-term strategy.
