An ejector-based CO<sub>2</sub> transcritical refrigeration system is at the heart of a refurbished MAKRO Cash & Carry store in Opole, Poland which opened on Tuesday.

In a further sign of the market penetration of ejectors into the food retail refrigeration sector, last Tuesday (22 May) marked the opening of a refurbished MAKRO Cash & Carry store sporting a new CO<sub>2</sub> transcritical supermarket fitted with a Danfoss multi-ejector.
The cooling system in the 12,000 m<sup>2</sup> store in Opole, Poland was installed with the support of Frigo-Consulting International Ltd., a Swiss refrigeration and engineering company.
MAKRO Cash & Carry’s parent company, Germany-based METRO AG, is a world-leading international wholesale and food retail company that has built a global reputation as a committed player in environmental protection efforts by committing to reduce Group-wide CO<sub>2</sub> emissions by 50% by 2030 (vs. 2011 levels).
Helping to deliver this target and in place since 2013, the METRO Group’s F-Gas Exit Program aims to phase out f-gases in all METRO stores worldwide by 2030, replacing them with natural refrigerant systems where it is technically and economically feasible to do so.
All the cooling furniture in the Opole store has closed doors. The store also boasts cooling rooms for dairy and meat products, accessible via sliding doors. Exkal provided the frozen food cabinets.
Two booster racks from Danish manufacturer Advansor, provide 255 kW of cooling capacity on the medium-temperature side and 45 kW on the low-temperature side.
Danfoss provided the regulatory system, while the evaporators are from LU-VE.
