Pukka Adds Third Spiral Freezer from Starfrost to Support Production Growth

Pukka is set to install a third Helix spiral freezer from Starfrost at its bakery in Syston, Leicestershire, as part of its continued investment in manufacturing technology. The new system will replace an older freezing unit and is expected to be operational later this year.

The decision follows the installation of two similar spiral freezers in 2021, supporting Pukka’s strategy to enhance capacity, improve consistency, and reduce maintenance-related downtime. According to the company, the upgrade aligns with plans to meet increasing demand while ensuring product quality.

The Helix spiral freezer provides a controlled freezing environment designed to improve efficiency and reliability. By automating the freezing process, it helps maintain consistent product quality and reduces operational interruptions.

Peter Gull, Engineering Manager at Pukka, said: “The new system will provide an automated and dependable freezing process, just like our other Starfrost equipment. This latest spiral freezer will enable us to increase production throughput while maintaining the high standards our customers expect.”

The freezer's advanced design aims to support higher throughput and streamline operations across Pukka’s production line. With this upgrade, the company intends to safeguard supply continuity and reinforce the consistency of its finished products.

The investment marks another step in Pukka’s wider manufacturing plan, focusing on equipment modernization and efficiency improvements across its production facilities.
