The Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) has begun rolling out digital licences through the Queensland Digital Licence app, aiming to streamline the licensing process for building professionals.
Launched in partnership with the Queensland Government, the rollout began in September 2025 and will be conducted in three stages through to November. According to the QBCC, the digital licences will offer a simpler, faster, and more secure alternative to physical cards while maintaining the same legal status.
The digital transition is voluntary. Licensees will continue to receive a physical licence card, but the digital version can be accessed via mobile devices, offering convenience and real-time updates. Key features include integrated security, automatic photo transfers from existing Queensland driver licences, and the ability to instantly check subcontractor credentials.
The QBCC states the move is intended to strengthen industry integrity, streamline compliance, and modernise its customer service approach.
More information, including rollout schedules and licence categories, is available on the
QBCC website.
