SWEP has successfully launched a new propane testing rig at its R&D Center in Landskrona, Sweden, to meet growing demand for sustainable heating and cooling systems. This development is in response to policies like the European F-Gas Regulation, which encourage the use of natural or low-GWP refrigerants.
The new testing facility enables SWEP to conduct in-house tests on brazed plate heat exchangers, even for extra-large units. "The new test rig will be crucial in developing products optimized for natural refrigerants," stated SWEP President Ulrika Nordqvist.
Having tested small to medium units since 2019, SWEP is now equipped to expand its capabilities. "The new rig is optimized for a wide propane envelope and supports the transition to sustainable heating and cooling," added Fabienne Bourquenoud Moret, VP Marketing, Research & Development.
Safety plays a vital role given propane’s flammable nature. The rig's launch is part of SWEP’s Global Investment Program, aimed at enhancing capabilities through 2025 to ensure customer success and foster growth.
