US National Committee of the IIR Announces New Bureau for 2024-2028

The US National Committee of the International Institute of Refrigeration (USNC/IIR) has appointed a new bureau following its February 2025 meeting. The newly elected officers will lead the committee’s activities for the 2024-2028 period, supporting national and international efforts in refrigeration, air conditioning, and cryogenics.

The USNC/IIR, originally established in 1956/57, plays a key role in advising government bodies, promoting research, and enhancing international cooperation in refrigeration-related fields. The newly elected officers are:

  • Chairman: Yunho Hwang (University of Maryland)
  • Vice-chair: Stefan Elbel (Creative Thermal Solution and TU Berlin)
  • Secretary: Harshad Inamdar (Rheem Manufacturing Company)
  • Treasurer: Davide Ziviani (Purdue University)
  • Webmaster: Hanlong Wan (Pacific Northwest National Laboratory) (continuing officer)
  • Membership: Harrison Skye (NIST)

Aligned with the IIR’s 2024-2028 strategic plan, the USNC/IIR aims to be an authoritative voice on refrigeration-related issues. The committee's objectives include ensuring effective US participation in the IIR, advising stakeholders on refrigeration science and technology, fostering research and innovation, and facilitating international cooperation, particularly with developing countries.

Additionally, the USNC/IIR nominates representatives for IIR commissions and organizes scientific events in line with the institute’s goals. By actively engaging in these efforts, the committee contributes to shaping policies and technical advancements in the refrigeration industry.
