Wieland Acquires Onda, Boosting Heat Exchanger Market Presence

Wieland has acquired Onda S.p.A., an Italian manufacturer of advanced heat exchangers, aiming to strengthen its position in the heat exchanger and data center cooling market. Onda will join Wieland’s Thermal Solutions unit, enhancing its capabilities in sustainable heating and cooling technologies, including high-performance tubes and electronics cooling solutions.

Onda, a leading HVAC&R equipment supplier, operates facilities in Italy, Finland, and the USA. The acquisition enhances Wieland’s existing operations with expanded product offerings, such as brazed plate and air heat exchangers. Dr. Erwin Mayr, CEO of the Wieland Group, emphasizes Onda’s alignment with Wieland's goals, enhancing its shell and tube heat exchanger capabilities.

Amidst trends in digitization and sustainability, Wieland anticipates strong growth in cooling equipment for data centers and electronics. With data centers projected to consume 8% of global power by 2030, reducing their carbon footprint is crucial. The acquisition enables Wieland to offer innovative cooling technologies that reduce refrigerant use significantly.

The transaction, finalized on October 2, 2024, positions Wieland to lead in the industry’s shift towards the 'electrification of heat.'
