YORK YZ Magnetic Bearing Centrifugal Chiller Wins 2021 CRH Innovation Award

Johnson Controls announced that the YORK YZ Magnetic Bearing Centrifugal Chiller won a 2021 CRH Innovation Award at the 2021 China Refrigeration Exhibition at Shanghai New International Expo Center. It was one of three Johnson Controls winners at the Expo in addition to the YORK YVAG heat recovery pump and FRICK Low Charge Central System.

“Our Global Applied Equipment team at Johnson Controls is pleased and honored to have the YZ chiller again recognized with a CRH Innovation Award,” said Claude Allain, vice president and general manager, global applied equipment at Johnson Controls. “With its environmentally-friendly and efficient design, the YZ Chiller highlights our company’s goals to provide sustainable and cutting-edge chiller solutions for our customers.”

Johnson Controls also showcased their offerings at the China Refrigeration Exhibition, focused on the theme of "Building a Green and Low-Carbon New City". The booth offerings highlighted a series of innovative technology products and a full range of industry solutions to help sustainable development.

The YORK YZ Magnetic Bearing Centrifugal Chiller is optimized around R-1233zd(E), a next-generation low-global warming potential (GWP) refrigerant, to provide the highest possible efficiency. The YZ chiller operates with entering condenser water temperature as low as 40°F (4.5°C), providing enhanced performance in every operating condition and the widest operating envelope in the industry.

The award-winning chiller delivers up to 35 percent annual energy savings with reduced maintenance costs by taking advantage of the off-design condition where chillers operate 99 percent of the time. Available from 165 to 1350 tons in cooling capacity, the chiller combines advanced technologies with a single stage design to provide industry-leading real-world energy efficiency. The award also supports Johnson Controls commitment to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040 and enhance customers’ opportunities to reduce their carbon emissions.

Since being launched in 2018, the YORK YZ Chiller has received numerous industry awards including the AHR Innovation Award Cooling Category Winner, 2018 CRH Innovation Product Award, a Bronze Award at the 2019 Edison Awards, Buildings Money-Saving Products Award and Consulting Specifying Engineer 2018 Product of the Year Award.

The product is supported by the OpenBlue digital platform released by Johnson Controls in 2020, which covers a complete set of smart building interconnection solutions and services, opening up and integrating the internal and external data of the building, enabling customers to operate and manage the building more systematically. The OpenBlue digital platform can be widely used in diverse scenarios such as commercial buildings, workplaces, schools, hospitals and more.
