YORK YZ Magnetic Bearing Centrifugal Chiller wins BuildingGreen Award

The YORK YZ Magnetic Bearing Centrifugal Chiller with R-1233zd(E) refrigerant was named a Top 10 Green Product for 2020 by BuildingGreen magazine.

Johnson Controls announces the YORK YZ Magnetic Bearing Centrifugal Chiller with R-1233zd(E) refrigerant was named a Top 10 Green Product for 2020 by BuildingGreen magazine. This marks one of numerous honors the YZ chiller has captured since its launch in 2018.

“It is a great honor for the YZ Chiller to be recognized for its contributions to help support a greener planet,” said Christine Detz, director, product management, centrifugal chillers, Building Technologies and Solutions at Johnson Controls. “Since its release nearly two years ago, the YZ continues to showcase its groundbreaking innovation as one of the industry’s most efficient and environmentally-friendly centrifugal chillers.”

For the past 18 years, BuildingGreen has selected 10 green building products that contribute to a sustainable environment through reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions, improved product life cycles and efforts to create a net-positive impact on society. Award winners were formally announced at the Greenbuild conference in Chicago on Wednesday, November 20.

The YORK YZ Magnetic Bearing Centrifugal Chiller is optimized for ultimate performance around next-generation low-global warming potential (GWP) refrigerant R-1233zd(E) to provide the highest possible efficiency. The YORK YZ chiller provides centrifugal chiller energy efficiencies as low as 0.1 kW/ton in off-design conditions where typical fixed-speed chillers experience performance issues. It has the potential to reduce annual electricity consumption by an average of 35 percent.

The YORK YZ Chiller has received numerous awards including the AHR Innovation Award Cooling Category Winner, China Refrigeration 2018 Innovation Product Award, Buildings Money-Saving Products Award and Consulting Specifying Engineer 2018 Product of the Year Award and the 2019 Edison Awards. The YORK YZ has also been named a finalist for the RAC Cooling Industry Award, Energy Awards 2018 and HVR Awards 2018.
