Solid-state cooling technologies forecasted to grow in global demand through 2046

ResearchAndMarkets.com has published a new report titled “Solid State Cooling Materials and Systems Radiative, PDRC, Caloric, Thermoelectric, Multimode, Multipurpose, Other: Markets, Technology 2026-2046.” The 472-page study provides a detailed analysis of market forecasts, research developments, and technology trends in solid-state cooling across a 20-year outlook.

The report outlines key drivers behind the expected growth in demand for cooling technologies, including global warming, electric vehicles, AI data centers, and clean energy production. It highlights solid-state cooling as a strategic alternative due to its potential for greater reliability, longer lifespan, and lower system-level costs compared to conventional vapor compression systems.

Among the technologies covered, Passive Daytime Radiative Cooling (PDRC) receives significant attention, with 100 pages dedicated to materials, recent research, and applications in apparel, windows, and solar panels. The report also explores radiative cooling advances such as self-adaptive, Anti-Stokes, and photonic systems, mapping a maturity curve for these technologies in 2026.

Caloric cooling, especially electrocaloric and elastocaloric methods, is another focus area. The report compares various ferroic phase change methods and evaluates the emerging potential of multimode and giant-caloric systems.

Thermoelectric cooling is presented as an evolving segment, now being applied in wearable devices and investigated for large-scale use such as building cooling and high-power electronics. The study includes insights into thermoelectric harvesting and a list of 82 manufacturers producing Peltier cooling modules and related products.

Additional sections examine metamaterial cooling technologies and developments in thermal interface materials (TIMs), with comparative analysis of current TIM solutions and key research advances through 2025.

The report includes 33 forecast lines for the 2026–2046 period, 11 SWOT analyses, and reviews of 97 research papers published up to 2025. According to the publisher, it aims to provide strategic insights for materials suppliers, technology integrators, and stakeholders across the solid-state cooling value chain.
