MHI Thermal Systems adds 10 kW and 14 kW R290 heat pumps in Europe

The monobloc units deliver 75 C flow temperatures from minus 25 C to 43 C, with European sales scheduled from spring 2026.

MHI Thermal Systems adds 10 kW and 14 kW R290 heat pumps in Europe

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Thermal Systems has expanded its Hydrolution EZY air-to-water heat pump series for Europe by adding 10 kW (approx. 34,120 BTU/h) and 14 kW (approx. 47,770 BTU/h) models. The new units join existing 6 kW (approx. 20,470 BTU/h) and 7.1 kW (approx. 24,230 BTU/h) models, with sales in European countries scheduled to start from spring 2026. The series uses R290 natural refrigerant.

The added models are monobloc units with a water heat exchanger built into the outdoor unit, so only water lines need to be fitted. According to the company, this simplifies installation compared with split-type air-to-water systems that require refrigerant pipe connections. MHI Thermal Systems said R290 has a global warming potential of 0.02, based on the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report.

MHI Thermal Systems said the 10 kW and 14 kW models retain the series’ high-temperature hot water supply, high efficiency, low-noise operation and safety features. The company said component changes for the refrigerant and a newly developed in-house compressor enable a flow temperature of 75 C (167 F) across conditions from minus 25 C (minus 13 F) to plus 43 C (109.4 F). The two new models also use separate electronic expansion valves for heating and cooling, and include a refrigerant leak detection sensor.

For noise reduction, the units use a double vibration isolation structure, a triple sound-absorbing structure and a large fan, and they can be set to a quiet mode. The 10 kW and 14 kW models are available with single-phase 230 V power supply or three-phase 400 V power supply. As with the 6 kW and 7.1 kW models, up to eight outdoor units can be connected to and controlled by one indoor control unit.

MHI Group said in October 2021 that it aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040 under its MISSION NET ZERO declaration. The company said the Hydrolution EZY series supports a transition from fossil-fuel boiler combustion to electric air-to-water systems.
