Airedale Launches Data Center Cooling Controls System in U.S.
Airedale by Modine, renowned for critical cooling solutions, has announced the U.S. launch of its Cooling System Optimizer. Initially launched in Europe in 2022, the Optimizer addresses industry needs for sustainable and secure cooling systems, capable of managing chilled water loops up to 20MW and beyond.

The Optimizer serves as an intelligent control layer, bridging the gap between chiller and CRAH product controls and the site’s building management system (BMS). It aims to enhance data center cooling resilience, redundancy, and energy efficiency by unifying indoor and outdoor cooling equipment. The system supports primary ring chilled water systems and remains compatible with primary/secondary systems, optimizing dynamic variable flow systems for critical SLAs with minimal energy use.

Designed to combat equipment outages due to power issues or network storms, the Optimizer operates on robust PLC-based controllers, ensuring high redundancy and compatibility with external ICT security networks. In recent testing, the system successfully withstood attempts to ‘break’ it on a 10MW loop setup, highlighting its reliability.

A dedicated controls team at the North America Data Center headquarters in Rockbridge, VA will manage U.S. delivery, supported by the global controls team in the UK. This team will develop comprehensive software solutions for data center providers, integrating building management, remote monitoring, and predictive maintenance.

Reece Thomas, Controls Director at Airedale, emphasized, “The US is an incredibly important market for us and we are seeing increasing demand for more intelligent software... With a dedicated US controls team, we can support our local and global customers with the high levels of service we are renowned for.”

He added, “The Optimizer has been incredibly well received in the industry, as many operators struggle to manage increasingly complex cooling systems with out-of-the-box BMS solutions... It’s a robust solution compatible with end-user ICT security systems, responsible for maintaining cooling system uptime while reducing energy costs.”
