BITZER has introduced the OWD series, a new water-cooled oil cooler line designed to support modern refrigeration and heat pump applications. The new series features a capacity range of up to 300 kW and incorporates technologies aimed at improving heat transfer and operational flexibility.
The OWD series covers the capacity requirements of all BITZER screw compressors, including single and parallel operation. It is compatible with various synthetic refrigerants such as HFCs, HFC-HFO blends, HFOs, and hydrocarbons. While developed for BITZER’s HS and OS screw compressors, the series is also suitable for systems from other manufacturers.
The oil coolers are available in 17 variants with 2-pass and 4-pass configurations. They feature disc and doughnut baffles that enable even oil distribution and optimized flow, reducing pressure loss and enhancing heat transfer. According to BITZER, these baffles also increase operational stability and extend service life. The baffle design allows symmetric flow patterns and adapts baffle spacing to optimize performance across different cooler sizes.
Compared to its predecessor OW series, the OWD series reduces dead space, allowing for increased use of tube surface and higher power density. BITZER states that this results in more than 40% lower CO2 equivalents. The baffles can withstand temperatures above +150°C, and the system operates within oil temperature ranges of –20°C to +150°C, oil pressures up to 32 bar, and water temperatures of –20°C to +95°C at 10 bar.
The OWD series is certified under CE-PED, SELO CML, BV, and DNV standards, enabling use in heat pumps, low temperature systems, and maritime and industrial applications. It is compatible with both freshwater and seawater.
Users can configure the OWD series via BITZER SOFTWARE, which enables compressor selection based on specific operating conditions and calculates the required cooling capacity. The software also offers manual configuration options and presents technical data for customized adjustments.
