Carrier Adds Data Center Model to USX EDGE Series in Japan

Carrier has launched a data center specification model for its Universal Smart X (USX) EDGE modular air-cooled chiller series in Japan. The model is designed to improve energy efficiency in high-temperature chilled water applications and accelerate recovery to full cooling capacity after power outages.

Data centers increasingly use chilled water above 20°C (68°F) for server cooling, creating operating conditions in which conventional chillers optimized for lower temperatures may not achieve optimal performance. Carrier said the new model improves efficiency at higher chilled water temperatures, enables faster return to full-capacity operation and includes harmonic mitigation as a standard feature.

Carrier Japan developed the model in response to data center growth linked to hyperscale cloud expansion, generative AI and demand for domestically located facilities. Since its launch in 2006, the USX series has reached a cumulative installed base of more than 70,000 units across applications including data centers.

“This product has been developed to address the operating requirements of data centers, combining enhanced efficiency in high-temperature chilled water applications with improved recovery performance and consideration for power quality,” said Mineo Maruyama, President of Carrier Japan.
