Carrier Chillers and Heat Pumps Available with R-515B

Carrier offers water-cooled chillers and heat pumps operating on the new low Global Warming Potential (GWP) refrigerant R-515B, which provides a number of important benefits for end users. With an A1 safety classification, R-515B is both non-flammable and non-toxic and has a GWP of less than 300, almost half the global warming impact of R-513A, which has a GWP of 573.

Equipment operating on R-515B has also been shown to be more energy efficient, with an improvement of up to 5% compared with R-513A. This reduces operating expensesfor end users over the lifetime of the equipment.

In addition, the requirement for periodic leak testing of equipment under F-gas Regulations is significantly reduced for plant running on R-515Bdue to its low GWP, cutting end users’ servicing costs.

Chillers and heat pumps operating on R-515B can be retrofitted in the future to operate on the ultra-low GWP refrigerant R-1234ze, which is not possible with equipment running on R-513A, therefore making it effectively future-proof from changes in F-Gas Regulations.

AquaForce® 30XW(H)PZE and 30XW(H)VZE premium water-cooled liquid screw chillers operating on R-515B are compliant with Eco-design Minimum Efficiency Performance Standards (MEPS), and conform with current F-Gas legislation up to 2030.

“After detailed evaluation of the options, we believe R-515B offers customers clear advantages over alternatives,” said Quentin Garcia San Mateo, product manager for screw chillers, Carrier Europe. “With its A1 safety classification, we believe it will prove to be a popular long-term choice for indoor installations.”

AquaForce 30XW(H)PZE fixed speed chillers are available in nominal cooling capacities from 275 to 1,100kW and use a variable capacity valve to match cooling capacity to load. AquaForce 30XW(H)VZE units are available in nominal cooling capacities from 450 to 1,300 kW and use a variable speed drive to precisely match output to load.
