Carrier Transicold has unveiled a new variant of its Vector HE 19 unit

Carrier Transicold has unveiled a new variant of its Vector HE 19 unit, designed to further reduce the carbon output of its flagship temperature-controlled trailer system through the use of B100 biofuel. Underlining Carrier Transicold’s ongoing commitment to transport decarbonization, the new Vector HE 19 with B100 delivers significant emissions savings without compromising performance.

Using the specialist B100 biofuel, typically derived from vegetable oils, animal fats or recycled cooking oils, the newly modified Carrier Transicold Vector HE 19 with B100 system can reduce carbon emissions by up to 60% compared to the standard diesel unit. By leveraging the Vector HE 19’s existing base architecture, the final product also matches its predecessor’s performance, delivering quiet PIEK-compliant operation and robust cargo temperature management.

“At Carrier Transicold, we remain squarely focused on sustainability and environmental responsibility in the logistics sector,” said Victor Calvo, Vice President & General Manager, International Truck & Trailer, Carrier Transicold. “The Vector HE 19 with B100 presents our customers with another option to swiftly reduce their carbon emissions, all while upholding the outstanding performance and reliability that Carrier Transicold is known for.”

While the existing Vector range can already use hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO) fuel as a drop-in alternative to diesel, the new variant is the result of a rigorous testing process, which began in 2023 to achieve engine certification to also use B100 biofuel. Carrier Transicold’s success on this front will allow it to supply modified systems to customers in countries subject to the European Stage V non-road emission standards, which enforces tighter limits on particulate matter emissions.

As with Carrier Transicold’s existing Vector HE 19 product, the B100-compatible variant combines the company’s all-electric E-Drive technology with a refined, multi-speed engine design. The presence of a fully hermetic scroll compressor and economiser also works to greatly reduce the chance of refrigerant escape while also enabling rapid temperature pull-down.

The innovative design of Carrier Transicold’s Vector HE 19 also ensures airflow management is optimized to guarantee maximized system performance. Specifically, the use of the Coanda effect – which helps cool air stick to the roof of the trailer – ensures consistent temperature control throughout, helping to maintain the integrity of the cold chain.

Production of the Carrier Transicold Vector HE 19 with B100 is expected to start in 2024, initially for the French market, and will be available in both mono- and multi-temperature configurations.
