Copeland has introduced its ZF/ZFI 10–20HP scroll compressors and related solutions for low-temperature cold chain applications in Asia. The company said the product line is designed to support cooling needs in the food industry by addressing performance challenges, lowering operational costs and helping customers meet sustainability requirements.
Cold chains play a key role in protecting food safety and quality while reducing food waste. According to a report from the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Sustainable Cooling in the Asia-Pacific region, refrigeration accounts for 35% of total hydrofluorocarbon (HFC)-related cooling emissions. Copeland said the launch supports the adoption of more efficient and sustainable cold chain technologies as part of regional decarbonization efforts.
The ZF/ZFI scroll compressors are available in models ranging from 10 to 20 HP and operate in temperatures from -45°C to 7°C. They are intended for applications including cold rooms, cold storage, supermarkets, food retail and light industrial systems. The compressors use Copeland dual-compliant scroll technology with optimized moving parts and bearing systems, as well as integrated electronics designed to support diagnostics and reliability while reducing maintenance frequency.
According to Copeland, enhanced vapor injection (EVI) technology improves energy efficiency and operating costs, while optional vapor or liquid injection scroll designs support cooling capacity in demanding conditions. The compressors are compatible with HFC refrigerants as well as low-global-warming-potential hydrofluoroolefins (HFOs) such as R-448A and R-449A. The units are also designed with a compact, low-noise configuration intended for installations with space or noise constraints.
Copeland also introduced an integrated ZF/ZFI 10–20HP scroll compressor solution that includes advanced electronics for protection, control and efficiency in low-temperature environments. Features include discharge temperature and motor protection, oil monitoring and return control, low oil level protection, and EVI and liquid control, along with Bluetooth connectivity for commissioning and troubleshooting via mobile devices.
“Leveraging decades of expertise in cold chain technology, we are committed to driving innovations that help our customers overcome crucial challenges,” said Tarun Singh, Senior Director, Cold Chain, APAC and IMEA at Copeland. “Our ZF/ZFI 10–20HP scroll compressors have increased our cold chain application coverage with an expanded operating envelope, exceptional reliability and durability.”
