Daikin Unveils New Oil-Free Centrifugal Chiller
Daikin Applied has unveiled the Magnitude WME-D, a next-generation water-cooled centrifugal chiller that features a two-stage, oil-free compressor and utilizes the low-global warming potential (GWP) R-515B refrigerant. This advanced chiller promises up to 40% energy savings compared to traditional fixed-speed compressors, helping building owners and operators accelerate their decarbonization efforts while benefiting from superior market performance.

"We are consistently working to provide sustainable, high-performance solutions," said Jim Macosko, Vice President of Product and Sustainability Solutions at Daikin Applied. "With the introduction of the Magnitude WME-D, customers can continue to experience unparalleled reliability and efficiency while reducing the environmental impact of their building and HVAC systems."

Key Features of the Magnitude WME-D Chiller:

Broad Application Flexibility:

  • Dual Capability: Provides 250-450 tons (900-1,600 kW) of cooling and 3600-5300 MBH (1,000-1,550 kW) of heating, eliminating the need for separate heating equipment.
  • Wide Operational Envelope: Supports functionalities such as free-cooling, inverted duty operation, and operation down to 10% capacity without hot gas bypass.
  • Adaptive Control: Unlike most chillers, the WME-D offers control of both evaporator leaving water for cooling and condenser leaving water for heating, reaching temperatures up to 126°F.

Compact and Efficient Design:

  • Space Optimization: The chiller's small footprint and high configurability make it ideal for both new construction and retrofit projects, particularly in schools, healthcare facilities, data centers, and office spaces.

Enhanced Energy Efficiency and Longevity:

  • Two-Stage Magnetic Bearing Compressor: Outperforms traditional centrifugal chillers by reducing carbon emissions and electrical requirements. The oil-free operation minimizes mechanical wear, offering increased reliability and longevity.

Sustainable Refrigerant:

  • Low-GWP R-515B Refrigerant: Aligns with Daikin's commitment to sustainable solutions, providing market-leading performance in both full-load and integrated part-load efficiency.

The introduction of the Magnitude WME-D marks a significant step forward in building energy-efficient, high-performance HVAC systems, underscoring Daikin Applied’s dedication to sustainability and innovation.
