METUS launches ecodan single-phase air-to-water line

Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC US LLC (METUS) has introduced its ecodan single-phase air-to-water heat pump product line for hydronic heating and cooling and domestic hot water applications in the U.S. The all-electric systems are designed for single-phase residential and light commercial use as an alternative to traditional boilers and other hydronic systems.

According to METUS, the ecodan systems can distribute heating and cooling through radiators, underfloor heating or fan coils, while also supplying domestic hot water. The company said the units operate at 43 to 49 dB(A) and that the line includes smart controls, hyper-heating technology and an all-in-one Hydrobox design intended to support installation and maintenance.

METUS will offer three Hyper-Heating INVERTER (H2i) WUZ outdoor models with two-, three- and four-ton capacities (approx. 7.0, 10.6 and 14.1 kW). The company said the units can operate in heating mode down to -22°F (-30°C), deliver 100% heating capacity at 5°F (-15°C), and reach a maximum flow temperature of 158°F (70°C).

The indoor Hydrobox is compatible with all three outdoor units and includes pumps, an expansion vessel, a magnetic filter, a booster heater and a plate heat exchanger. METUS said the system uses refrigerant piping between the outdoor and indoor units, while additional features include an optional indirect 60- or 85-gallon domestic hot water tank (approx. 227 or 322 liters), boiler interlock with smart auxiliary/back-up control, and a controller with a touch, color screen.

“Traditional hydronic systems in homes use oil, propane, or natural gas,” said Brinnon Williams, Vice President of Residential Business, METUS. “Mitsubishi Electric’s ecodan ATW heat pumps use electricity instead, making them perfect for homeowners embracing more sustainable options for heating and cooling their homes and for DHW uses.”
