MHI Thermal Systems adds higher-capacity R32 multi-split units for overseas markets

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Thermal Systems, Ltd. (MHI Thermal Systems) has expanded its KXZ3 Series of building-use multi-split air conditioners with new models ranging from 40.0 to 67.0 kW, bringing the total system capacity up to 201.0 kW. These additions respond to increasing demand in overseas markets. Sales will begin this spring in Europe, followed by launches in Australia, New Zealand, and Turkey.

The KXZ3 Series uses R32 refrigerant, which has a global warming potential (GWP) of 675—approximately one-third that of R410A (GWP 2,088) used in the previous KXZ2 Series. The series allows flexible combinations of up to three units to meet different installation and operational requirements, such as limited space in urban buildings or energy-saving performance. All models maintain a consistent height of 1,750 mm to simplify installation and maintenance.

New features include a redesigned compressor and airflow path for improved energy efficiency, as well as “Variable Temperature & Capacity Control +” and “hot gas bypass defrost” functions for enhanced comfort and performance. MHI Thermal Systems also provides safety devices compliant with European regulations, including a shut-off valve that can isolate refrigerant flow in the event of a leak, supporting multiple indoor units and lowering installation costs.

The newly added models follow the same exterior design concept as the 22.4-33.5 kW models released in Fiscal 2024, which received the A' Design Award 2025 and the Australian Good Design Award. The design incorporates elements such as blue ornamentation, rounded edges, and flat panels, aimed at harmonizing with urban environments.
