New units from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries

Starting in September Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Thermal Systems, Ltd., a Group company of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI), will progressively launch upgraded models of the indoor units of its packaged air-conditioners. Newly added to the lineup of multi air-conditioners for commercial use will be the small-capacity, ceiling-mounted FDTC Series with 4-way air outlets. In addition to a new panel design, the new units achieve the industry's thinnest profile and lightest weight*1.The other new lineup will be the FDF Series(FDF Series of floor-standing units: achieves industry-leading APF in 5HP category) of floor-standing air-conditioners for shops and offices, marketed under the "Saison" brand. They offer improved energy-saving performance, with the 5-horsepower (HP) model achieving an industry-leading*2 APF2015*3 rating of 5.4.

The FDTC Series(FDTC Series of small-capacity, ceiling-mounted units with 4-way air outlets: now more stylish and compact) will be available in a lineup of models with capacities ranging from 2.2 to 5.6 kilowatts (kW). Designed by zweigrad GmbH & Co. KG, a design firm based in Hamburg, Germany, the FDTC units feature air inlets of honeycomb structure and flat outlet louvers, resulting in functional proficiency combined with a stylishly attractive appearance. Panel size has been reduced by 22% in area: from 0.49m2 (700 x 700mm) with the earlier model to 0.38m2 (620 x 620mm). The new dimensions enable smooth installation to a grid-system ceiling comprised of latticed panels from 600 x 600mm to 625 x 625mm. With a unit height of only 248mm-thinnest in the industry-the FDTC Series units can be installed even in confined ceiling spaces. The units are also the lightest in the industry-just 14 kilograms (kg)-further enhancing construction ease.

As a standard feature, all units in the FDTC Series come with "AirFlex," a proprietary function that suppresses the unpleasant draftiness typically felt when air blows directly on a person. The result is a pleasant ambient space in which cooled air is not directly blown on the people present-a benefit highly acclaimed with the FDT Series. The new FDTC models also feature a sensor that detects human presence and level of activity, enabling optimal comfort and energy savings.

The FDF Series achieve significantly enhanced heat exchanging efficiency and higher energy performance through new adoption of a small-diameter tube heat exchanger. Also, the remote controller for the main unit newly adopts an air direction indicator especially for the floor-standing unit, and operating ease has been improved. Furthermore, installation options have been broadened by increasing the choice of pipe extraction directions to six, from only four with previous models.

Units in the new FDF Series feature the R32 refrigerant, which offers an ozone depletion potential (ODP) of zero and a global warming potential (GWP) of 675, representing a near 70% reduction from the GWP of 2090 with the earlier R410A. All air-conditioners for shops and offices of up to 6HP now feature the R32 refrigerant.

Going forward, MHI Thermal Systems will continue to create products for the packaged air-conditioner market, including commercial-use multi air-conditioners and air-conditioners for shops and offices, engineered for environmental harmony, the user's comfort and convenience, and operating ease.
