Pfannenberg USA launches new BESS chillers for thermal management

Pfannenberg, Inc. has introduced its latest chillers for battery energy storage systems (BESS), the VLV 4-12 and DMC 8.0 series. The company highlights these models as compact and energy-efficient solutions designed to provide reliable thermal management in demanding operating conditions.

The VLV 4-12 is an off-grid chiller that connects directly to the battery system through a DC power supply ranging from 570 to 800 volts. It operates in ambient temperatures from -25°C to +45°C and includes an internal heater for stable liquid temperature in winter. The unit uses variable frequency drive technology, a micro-channel condenser, and EC fans to improve energy efficiency. A slim profile and structural notch allow installation in confined spaces, while Modbus TCP enables communication with Battery Management Systems. The model is covered by two patents related to its design and power source.

The DMC 8.0 is a door-mounted chiller designed for semi-recessed or wall-mounted installation. It operates in ambient temperatures from -20°C to +50°C and uses an inverter-driven compressor with EC fans for precise temperature control and low noise. An integrated heater maintains battery temperature in cold conditions. The chiller supports Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP communication, offering options for remote monitoring.

“The VLV and DMC chillers set a new benchmark for BESS thermal management, combining direct DC connectivity and robust reliability to maximize battery performance in any environment,” said Jared Hallberg, Product Management, Chillers at Pfannenberg.
