Tecumseh Launches CRIOS Unit Cooler in North America
Tecumseh Products Company has announced the launch of the CRIOS Unit Cooler portfolio, designed for walk-in cold room applications. The new range prioritizes efficient performance, safety, and ease of installation and complements Tecumseh’s ARGUS ½ to 12HP remote outdoor condensing units.

Designed for Current and Future Refrigerants

The CRIOS unit cooler supports both current A1-class refrigerants such as R448A and R449A and next-generation A2L-class refrigerants, including R454A, R454C, and R455A. This versatility ensures compliance with evolving environmental regulations while maintaining operational performance.

Safety, Performance, and Reliability

Engineered to meet UL standards and DOE energy efficiency requirements for walk-in coolers, the CRIOS and ARGUS systems emphasize reliability and safety. Key features include an advanced electronic expansion valve (EEV) option for precise temperature control and compatibility with next-generation refrigerants. This ensures alignment with safety and operational requirements for A2L refrigerants.

Simplified Installation and Maintenance

The CRIOS unit cooler portfolio incorporates user-friendly features such as side panels, a hinged drain pan for easy servicing, and compatibility with standard North American unit cooler sizes, simplifying installation and replacement. ARGUS condensing units are similarly designed for efficiency, with features like LED service panels that facilitate maintenance.

Broad Cooling Capacities

CRIOS Unit Coolers offer capacities ranging from 3,200 BTU/h to 43,200 BTU/h, supporting a wide variety of cold room applications. ARGUS condensing units include extended XL chassis options (7-12HP) for larger systems, offering flexibility for diverse refrigeration needs.

Supporting the Transition to Low-GWP Refrigerants

Both CRIOS and ARGUS systems are compatible with legacy A1 refrigerants, providing immediate solutions for existing systems. In preparation for the industry’s shift toward sustainable refrigerants, Tecumseh will provide samples of A2L-compatible models by Q2 2025. This aligns with the regulatory focus on low-GWP refrigerants, ensuring compliance with the 2026 deadline for new installations.
