2023 AHR Samsung Product Showcase

At the AHR EXPO 2023, Samsung showcase innovative residential, light commercial and commercial systems.

Residential

WindFree Mini Splits

Samsung’s exclusive WindFree Cooling technology provides end-users with a cool indoor climate and optimal energy efficiency without the discomfort of direct cold airflow. The latest mini split lineup includes the WindFree 3.0, 3.0e and 3.0i. All models utilize the new Freeze Wash function that will freeze, thaw, then dry the evaporator coil to wash away dust and other airborne contaminants. In addition, the WindFree 3.0i features a PM 1.0 filter that captures ultrafine dust particles up to 0.3µm in size and will display the air cleanliness status.

The systems are also Wi-Fi enabled allowing voice control with Bixby 2.0 and other popular voice control products and monitoring from anywhere with an internet connection through Samsung’s SmartThings app. Users can remotely regulate temperature, adjust settings, automate unit functions, receive real time updates about operation and daily energy usage, as well as troubleshoot solutions when a repair is needed.

In addition, the indoor unit model numbers are compatible with Samsung’s residential single-zone and Free Joint Multi (FJM) multi-zone systems to simplify Samsung’s product portfolio and reducing the overall number of SKUs to manage.

Hylex

The Hylex unit is Samsung’s first universal, inverter-driven heat pump that serves as a direct replacement for a traditional cooling-only or heat pump unitary outdoor units. Hylex units connect to any coil with a TXV (conditions apply) that can be applied to full (new system) or partial (replacement) applications.  Hylex systems are non-communicating which allows the heat pump outdoor unit to connect to virtually any air handling unit, A-Coil, and 24 VAC thermostat.  Samsung’s innovative design also provides the ability to provide three fan speed control of the indoor unit which provides improved efficiency, optimized dehumidification, and reduced sound.  Hylex units are available in 2, 3, 4, and 5 nominal ton capacities.

Hylex units are the perfect solution for partial or full system replacement as it will use traditional unitary line sets without an insulated liquid line and will allow three different suction pipe diameters.  If a cooling-only system is being replaced with a Hylex variable speed heat pump, the system only requires two conductors between the outdoor unit and the indoor section allowing the installer to reuse existing low voltage control wires.

With electrification initiatives driving the consumer decision making process, Hylex units were designed for mild to the harshest climates where heat pumps are being installed in place of natural gas systems. Hylex systems can provide 100% rated heating capacity at -5°F (-20.5°C) and provides high heating performance down to -13°F (-25°C). To promote optimal water drainage during defrost cycles, each unit is equipped with a base pan heater as standard.

To ensure the system is configured properly, Samsung HVAC has created a web-based tool that asks the installer general system questions and provides a summarized settings report. No special programming tools or computers are required to configure the system.

Light Commercial

Samsung’s Light Commercial (CAC) single-zone systems now offer 9 types of indoor units, ranging from 9,000 to 48,000 Btu/h, to provide solutions for almost any application.

With increasing decarbonization and electrification efforts, Samsung put a strong emphasis on high cooling performance, heating capacity, efficiency ratings and features.  Many systems are Energy Star certified and qualify for numerous energy rebates and programs including NEEP.

Select systems provide 100% heating capacity at -4°F (-20°C), high heating operation down to -13°F (-25°C) and feature an integral base pan heater to promote optimal water drainage during defrost cycles.

In addition, most indoor unit models are compatible with Free Joint Multi (FJM) multi-zone systems and Light Commercial (CAC) single-zone systems to simplify Samsung’s product portfolio and reducing the overall number of SKUs to manage.

Commercial

DVM S2 Max Heat is the latest generation of Samsung VRF cold climate systems with high heating performance at -22°F (-30°C) while maintaining 100% heating capacity at -13°F (-25°C). Systems range in capacity from 6 to 30 tons in both heat pump and heat recovery configurations and will support up to 62 indoor units per system.

The DVM S2 Max Heat features Artificial Intelligence (AI) with Deep Neural Network algorithms to optimize system operation with high and low pressure control, defrost cycle activation and operation, and low refrigerant monitoring.

Samsung’s AI technology allows the equipment to operate at exact target pressures and temperatures based on the actual application to save energy.

The DVM S2 Max Heat features a simplified chassis design and integral inverter check function that eliminates the need for a separate tool to validate inverter operation for easier serviceability.
