From 4 to 9 October 2025, BITZER will present its latest compressor technologies for mobile air conditioning and heat pump systems at Busworld Europe in Brussels. Located at Stand 528 in Hall 5, the company will focus on energy efficiency and the use of natural refrigerants in line with global environmental regulations and industry demands for sustainable mobility solutions.
BITZER's mobile applications target electric buses, where system components must meet strict requirements in terms of compactness, low weight, high efficiency, and reliability. The company highlights that global and European regulations, such as the EU F-Gas Regulation and eco-labels like the Blue Angel, are accelerating the transition to environmentally friendly refrigerants. BITZER is responding with expanded product lines designed for natural and low-GWP refrigerants.
Among the innovations on display is the horizontal EL.7 scroll compressor series, now available in variants suitable for propane (R290). This follows the earlier introduction of the SPEEDLITE ELV52 scroll compressor and the CO₂LITE reciprocating compressor. The EL.7 compressors can be operated with or without frequency inverters and are based on BITZER's longstanding experience with propane in mobile and stationary applications.
BITZER has been offering compressors for hydrocarbons like R290 since 1990 and for CO₂ (R744) since 1998. The CO₂LITE reciprocating compressor is optimized for compact transport systems, featuring a reduced installation height of 257 mm and weighing under 80 kg. It supports both vertical and horizontal installation and provides up to 32 kW cooling and 25 kW heating capacity under specified operating conditions.
The company emphasizes that using natural refrigerants ensures long-term compliance with environmental regulations. The updated EU F-Gas Regulation 2024/573 sets a path for reducing emissions in CO₂ equivalents by 2030, allowing only refrigerants with near-zero GWP in new systems thereafter. These European standards are influencing international markets under frameworks like the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol.
"An efficient and reliable air conditioning and heat pump system is key when it comes to increasing the range of electric buses and ensuring a high level of passenger comfort," said Oliver Rathfelder, Director of Sales Transport at BITZER. "And that is why we at BITZER focus on developing components with high operating reliability."
