Brazil to Present National Strategy for HFC Consumption Reduction

On December 1, the Brazilian government will launch the Proposal for Stage I of the National Strategy under the Brazilian Hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) Phase-down Program, aligned with the country’s commitments under the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol. The initiative is led by the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MMA), in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).

The event will present strategic guidelines for the program's first phase, aimed at reducing the consumption of HFCs—substances with high global warming potential (GWP). The proposal includes a detailed diagnosis of HFC consumption in Brazil by substance and sector, as well as planned actions to support the transition to low-GWP technologies.

The strategy seeks to encourage more energy-efficient alternatives, foster technological modernization, and strengthen the national industry, in line with Brazil’s international climate goals.

The presentation will be held in hybrid format, from 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the auditorium of the Brazilian Association of Refrigeration, Air Conditioning, Ventilation and Heating (ABRAVA) in São Paulo. Online registration is available.
