Cool Up and Turkish Directorate Expand Training on Climate and Cooling Policies

Seminar in Antalya strengthens technical skills across 74 provincial directorates.

From 9–11 April 2025, UNDP Türkiye and the Turkish Directorate of Climate Change conducted a seminar in Antalya to enhance local capacity in climate policy and sustainable cooling. Organized under the Cool Up programme, the training gathered 84 participants from 47 Provincial Directorates of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change.

The three-day seminar addressed key topics relevant to Türkiye’s climate goals, including fundamentals of climate change, the forthcoming climate law, and current regulations on fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-gases). Participants also reviewed enforcement mechanisms such as monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) systems for greenhouse gas emissions, inspection protocols, and national strategies to curb illegal F-gas trade.

This session followed an earlier seminar held in February 2025, which trained staff from 27 provincial directorates. Combined, the two events have reached personnel from 74 directorates, reinforcing local implementation of national climate actions and sustainable cooling strategies.

"By increasing technical know-how at the provincial level, we are building the foundation for effective policy enforcement and a nationwide shift toward low-carbon cooling," said a representative from the Turkish Directorate of Climate Change.

The training forms part of the Cool Up programme’s broader effort to support sustainable cooling transitions in Türkiye and aligns with national objectives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve energy efficiency in the building and refrigeration sectors.
