GIZ Proklima participates in a meeting with government agents to implement the Kigali Amendment in Brazil.
On 6th March, representatives from the government, GIZ, UNDP and UNIDO began the preparatory phase for the implementation of the Kigali Amendment in Brazil. This amendment, complementary to the Montreal Protocol, is part of the Brazilian Program for the Elimination of HCFCs (PBH), with the aim of reducing the consumption of Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) in the country between 2026 and 2045.
During the meeting, was discussed about the progress on stages I and II of the PBH, with also debates and preparations for the presentation of stage III at the 94th EXcom meeting in June. The partnership with GIZ since 2004 has played a crucial role in this process, through the Proklima project. Key figures, such as the National Secretary for Climate Change, Ana Toni, participated in the meeting, emphasizing the success of collaboration between international agencies and Brazil's ability to reconcile climate and economic issues.
The implementation of the Kigali Amendment, with the support of Ibama and the collaboration of the chemical sectors and climate change agents, represents an important milestone. This effort aims to prevent the emission of 79.5 million tons of CO2eq, making a significant contribution to combating climate change. Ana Toni also stressed the importance of the technical, environmental and economic partnership, expressing the desire to inspire other environmental conventions to adopt similarly successful agendas.
