Danish heat pump manufacturer Solid Energy and steam generator maker Clayton Industries have announced a collaboration to develop a high-temperature heat pump solution capable of producing industrial steam at up to 4 bar. The electric system is aimed at industrial steam applications that are currently served mostly by gas- or oil-fired plants.
Under the partnership, Solid Energy will supply its heat pump technology for integration with a Clayton steam generation module. The steam solution builds on the same compressor technology and control architecture used in Solid Energy’s existing high-temperature heat pumps, which deliver flow temperatures of up to 165°C (329°F).
The industrial steam heat pump is intended for sites that want to replace or supplement conventional fossil-fuel-fired steam generation while maintaining the steam performance their processes require.
Solid Energy specialises in very high-temperature industrial heat pumps designed to recover and upgrade heat for demanding industrial processes. Clayton has developed industrial steam technology since 1930. Its European engineering and production operations have been based in Bornem, Belgium, since 1961, where Clayton of Belgium serves as the EMEA headquarters and main production hub. The Clayton Group is headquartered in California, with production facilities in Mexico and Europe and subsidiaries in France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and the UK.
“We have achieved the higher temperature capability by evolving technology that has already been proven in operation for many years,” said Jan Enemark, CEO of Solid Energy.
