CIBSE Certification Ltd has launched the first verified carbon data products register for mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) equipment, aiming to support more consistent and transparent embodied carbon reporting across the built environment sector.
The initiative is part of CIBSE Certification’s Embodied Carbon Verification (ECV) scheme, which uses the CIBSE TM65 methodology to assess embodied carbon in building services products. The scheme introduces a structured process for verifying carbon data, incorporating independent assessments and standardised calculation methods to support informed design decisions from early project stages.
Embodied carbon accounts for approximately 11% of global CO₂ emissions and contributes between 20–50% of a building’s total lifecycle carbon footprint. MEP products are responsible for about 27% of embodied carbon in buildings, with this share potentially doubling depending on manufacturing processes and building types.
The newly launched ECV Register consolidates verified carbon data from manufacturers into a single, openly accessible source. It is intended to help designers, specifiers, and clients select lower-carbon products, improve compliance with project targets, and drive demand for high-quality, transparent carbon data.
UK-based Williams Refrigeration has been listed on the new register, with certified embodied carbon figures for a range of foodservice equipment, including Jade counters and cabinets, blast chillers, Chef’s Drawers, bottle coolers, Onyx prep stations, UBCs (Under Broiler Counters), and undercounter Amber and Aztra cabinets. Additional product families are expected to follow.
