Seafood Centre Adopts Thermo King Electric Refrigeration in the Netherlands

Dutch seafood wholesaler Seafood Centre (Vis en Meer) has equipped its battery-electric Citroën ë-Jumpy delivery vans with Thermo King E-Series refrigeration units. The E-400-MAX and E-500 MAX systems enable emission-free refrigerated deliveries in municipal zero-emission zones across the Netherlands.

The refrigeration units draw power directly from the vehicles’ high-voltage batteries through an electric power take-off (e-PTO) system. This eliminates the need for separate refrigeration battery packs, reducing additional weight and helping preserve payload capacity.

The technology also simplifies vehicle integration and supports flexible charging options, including fast charging and charging while driving. These features support urban seafood distribution involving frequent stops and temperature-sensitive products.

The fleet electrification project is part of Seafood Centre’s broader sustainability strategy. The company operates from an energy-efficient, fully insulated facility equipped with solar panels and no natural gas heating.

Seafood Centre founder and owner Joep Besselink said the Thermo King solution supports the company’s environmental objectives while maintaining seafood quality and operational reliability. Martijn Nanning, General Manager of Thermo King Netherlands, emphasised the importance of combining vehicle electrification with efficient energy management to address changing transport requirements.
