ASERCOM updates Modbus Electronic Data Sheet to Version 1.1.0

ASERCOM has released Version 1.1.0 of its Modbus Electronic Data Sheet (EDS), updating the framework for the standardised description of Modbus server devices and their data models.

The Modbus EDS allows manufacturers to describe device information, communication parameters and individual data points in a machine-readable JSON format. Compatible clients can parse the information automatically, simplifying device integration and reducing the need for proprietary data descriptions.

Version 1.1.0 adds further baud rates and an InterFrameGap parameter, as well as an additional value definition for digital data. The release also includes corrections to unit codes and examples and introduces a UnitNotation feature for prefixes including milli, kilo and mega.

The update also provides guidance for automatic device identification using Modbus Function Code 43. Modbus EDS V1.1.0 is available from ASERCOM with immediate effect.
