Emergent Cold LatAm Leads the Way with EDGE Zero Carbon Certification in Panama
Emergent Cold Latin America (Emergent Cold LatAm) has become the first company in Panama's temperature-controlled food storage sector to receive the prestigious EDGE Zero Carbon certification. This certification highlights the company's achievement in neutralizing carbon emissions and utilizing 100% renewable energy sources at its plant in Panama City.

The facility leverages advanced management software to enhance operational reliability while controlling CO2 emissions and energy consumption. This milestone follows the company's global leadership in the industry, as it previously became the first worldwide to achieve the EDGE Zero Carbon certification with its plant in San Pedro de La Paz, Chile, in July 2024.

Earning the EDGE Zero Carbon certification requires prior attainment of the EDGE Advanced certification, involving a minimum of 40% energy savings and a 20% reduction in both water consumption and energy embedded in construction materials. Emergent Cold LatAm's Chilean facility reached 48% energy savings and a 68% reduction in water usage.

Moises Ventocilla, Engineering Director at Emergent Cold LatAm, stated, "The standards set by EDGE certifications are global benchmarks. We challenge ourselves, promoting important changes to achieve greater savings."

Ricardo Jacob, Vice President of Operations, emphasized the company's commitment to sustainability, noting, "We already have eleven buildings with EDGE Advanced certification and two EDGE Zero Carbon plants. Our plans don't stop there."

The EDGE certifications, managed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), part of the World Bank, are designed to promote sustainable and resource-efficient building practices globally.
