Magnavale begins construction on automated cold store in Southwest UK

Magnavale has started construction on a new fully automated frozen cold store in Southwest England. The facility, called Magnavale Bristol, will offer capacity for 90,000 pallets and is designed to enhance food supply chain infrastructure in the region.

The cold store is being built at a site located at the junction of the M4 and M5 motorways. According to Magnavale, this location will provide strong transport connectivity to South Wales and the Southwest of England, supporting both current and new customers in the food sector.

The design of Magnavale Bristol will follow the model of Magnavale Easton, the company’s recently completed site in Lincolnshire. The facility will include advanced automation, modern refrigeration systems, and dynamic mezzanine floors. It will also support value-added services such as picking, packing, date coding, and export handling.

“This groundbreaking represents the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the Magnavale Network. Magnavale Bristol will be a critical partner for food businesses in the region, providing capacity and innovation where it is most needed,” said Amanda Cogan, Chief Operations Officer at Magnavale.

With the groundbreaking complete, machinery is now preparing the site for foundation and piling work. Jonathan Gagg, Engineering Director at Sadel Development Management, stated: “Breaking ground on this project is the culmination of extensive design and planning. Our focus is now on delivering a world-class, fully automated cold storage facility that sets new standards for efficiency and sustainability.”
