A new NHS Supply Chain regional distribution centre in Gorsey Point, Widnes, is now fully operational, supporting 115 NHS Trusts with a more resilient and efficient supply of products and medical equipment across North West England.
Covering 400,000 square feet - equivalent to six professional football pitches - the facility offers 60,000 pallet spaces, significantly upscaling the capacity from its previous Runcorn location. This expansion supports 360 jobs, primarily relocations from the smaller warehouse.
NHS Supply Chain's CEO, Andrew New, highlighted the facility’s role in improving the resilience and efficiency of the NHS supply chain. "This investment in the North West is crucial for our long-term national growth plans, ensuring we meet the growing needs of NHS trusts in the region," said New.
Strategically located near key motorway junctions and the Mersey Gateway Bridge, the centre benefits from excellent connectivity to regional transport networks, facilitating efficient logistics. The investment aligns with NHS Supply Chain's mission to support NHS trusts by providing a reliable, clinically assured, and cost-efficient supply chain.
