Sono Group N.V. has launched an innovative solar-powered refrigeration system for trailers, aiming to revolutionize sustainable logistics and reduce emissions in the transport sector. Building on positive feedback from the IAA Transportation 2024, the technology uses semi-flexible photovoltaic modules and a proprietary solar charge controller to optimize energy use, providing up to 3-4 hours of independent power daily.
The solar solution promises a solid return on investment, with a payback period of about three years depending on location and usage. By reducing fuel dependence and operating costs, it helps fleet operators minimize downtime and hedge against fluctuating energy prices, positioning their fleets as leaders in eco-friendly logistics.
The system has already attracted interest from temperature-controlled unit suppliers, fleet operators, and trailer manufacturers, highlighting its potential to transform sustainable logistics. Sono is also involved in the evTrailer project, a research initiative to measure the positive impacts of solar-powered trailers, aiming to make them an industry-standard in the European Union's VECTO emissions tracking tool. This aligns with Sono's commitment to reducing CO2 emissions and supporting fleet operators in meeting regulatory and sustainability goals.
