EVAPCO Launches ‘World’s First’ Packaged Low-Charge Ammonia Mega-Split Refrigeration System

EVAPCO Launches ‘World’s First’ Packaged Low-Charge Ammonia Mega-Split Refrigeration System

Evapco has launched VersaSplit, a new condensing unit that the company deems the “world’s first” packaged low-charge ammonia (R717) mega-split refrigeration system, with up to six remote direct expansion (DX) evaporators operating at different temperatures.

The Evapcold LCR-S VersaSplit low charge ammonia condensing unit provides high pressure subcooled liquid ammonia to remote direct expansion (DX) evaporators.
Refrigeration capacities up to 130 TR for -10°F Freezers and 165 TR for +35°F Coolers/Docks are available, offering a versatile solution to meet the demands of new or retrofit installations.

Features & Benefits

  • Direct-expansion system providing low ammonia charge averaging 4 to 6 lbs/TR
  • Installation versatility with roof or ground mounting
  • Reach-in enclosure with operational and maintenance access, ammonia detection and ventilation
  • High quality screw compressors, valves, controls and piping (majority of piping inside enclosure is 304L stainless steel)
  • Variable speed capacity control of compressor motor and condenser fan motors for maximum efficiency
  • XPS insulation of low temperature piping and vessels with PVC jacketing, along with complete labeling and tagging
  • EVAPCO adiabatic, air-cooled or water-cooled condensers available to meet site ambient conditions
  • High pressure receiver sized to hold entire system charge
  • Suction accumulator to ensure liquid free compressor suction during upset conditions
  • Welded plate and frame DX liquid economizer/subcooler maximizing system capacity
  • Dual compressors available for increased redundancy and capacity
  • EVAPCO designed and rigorously tested industrial PLC based control system
  • Glycol-cooled oil cooling for maximum system efficiency and reliability. On air-cooled units, oil cooling load is rejected to the condenser
  • Engineered in accordance with industry codes, including: IIAR, IBC, OSHA, NEC and ASME
  • Extensive documents package delivered with each unit reducing customer compliance scope through IIAR’s ARM-Low Charge Program Feeds up to six EVAPCO AHRI 420 certified ceiling-hung or penthouse evaporators
  • Remote mounted panel with evaporator motor starters and I/O for evaporator control devices
  • Optional variable frequency drives for evaporators
  • Optional ship loose evaporator valve stations
