Frascold has introduced two semi-hermetic compressor ranges for natural refrigerants: ALUMINIUM screw compressors for R717 ammonia and two-stage piston compressors for CO2. The new products target industrial and commercial refrigeration applications and will be presented at Chillventa 2026 in Germany.
The ALUMINIUM range is designed for storage and freezing applications in medium-sized and large food, chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Eight ALU-L and ALU-H models cover low- and medium-temperature applications, with volumetric displacement from 315 to 470 m³/h at 50 Hz and 378 to 564 m³/h at 60 Hz. Motor power ranges from 130 to 160 HP (97–120 kW), with operation from 30 to 60 Hz. Evaporation temperatures extend from -45°C to -10°C for low-temperature applications and from -20°C to +5°C for medium-temperature applications.
For compatibility with R717, Frascold uses aluminium combined with permanent magnets in the compressor motor instead of copper and its alloys, which are vulnerable to corrosion when in contact with ammonia. The compressors have sizing pressures of 20.5 bar on the low-pressure side and 30 bar on the high-pressure side, with a maximum discharge temperature of 90°C. The design also combines a variable frequency drive (VFD) with variable internal volume control (Vi).
Frascold’s new two-stage CO2 piston compressor range consists of 11 models across three sizes and is intended for applications including individual counters, small cold rooms and industrial freezers. Based on improvements from the TK Heavy Duty transcritical CO2 models, the compressors use steel components with surface treatments intended to reduce friction and wear. Four-cylinder models also incorporate internal barriers between the oil sump and motor to reduce oil mixing with the suction gas stream, while multiple ports support flash tanks, desuperheaters and subcoolers.
The CO2 compressors have a nominal first-stage volumetric displacement from 1.5 to 12.6 m³/h at 50 Hz and from 1.8 to 15.1 m³/h at 60 Hz. Maximum allowable pressure reaches 100 bar on the suction LP/MP side and 155 bar on the HP delivery side. They are developed for maximum operating temperatures of 160°C and minimum evaporation temperatures of -50°C.
Frascold will display both ranges at booth 5-336, Hall 5, during Chillventa in Nuremberg, Germany, from October 13 to 15, 2026.
