Johnson Controls has launched its Sabroe HitemHP line of industrial high-temperature heat pumps for European industries requiring high-temperature process heat. The units deliver output temperatures up to 122°C (252°F) and use natural refrigerants.
The HitemHP range is engineered and manufactured at the company’s heat pump and chiller facility in Denmark. It uses the Sabroe SMC single-stage reciprocating compressor and can operate from 100% down to 18% capacity. Johnson Controls says service intervals can be extended by nearly 50%, while coefficient of performance (COP) can be up to 20% higher under part-load operation than at full capacity.
The heat pumps use ultra-low-GWP butane and iso-butane, which Johnson Controls says align with upcoming EU regulations. The range features a standardized, modular, configure-to-order design with compact, factory-assembled units intended to reduce lead times, installation complexity and commissioning time.
In one customer application based on site-specific operating conditions and assumptions, the system delivered up to three times the energy efficiency of electric boilers. When paired with waste heat from a refrigeration plant, it showed potential to reduce energy costs by more than 91%, annual water costs by up to 30% and on-site CO2 emissions by up to 82%.
