The Washington State Department of Ecology has selected Heating, Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration Distributors International (HARDI) as a voting member of the state’s Refrigerant Task Force. The group was established under House Bill 1462, adopted during the Washington legislature’s 2025 session.
The task force will prepare a report for the state legislature recommending strategies and identifying key considerations for a possible transition to low- and ultra-low-global-warming-potential refrigerants by 2035. Its work will consider different types of refrigerant-using equipment, the sectors in which they are used, the timelines required by each industry and whether the transition is feasible.
Meetings are scheduled to begin in July 2026 and continue monthly through 2027. The Washington legislature is expected to discuss the report’s recommendations during its 2028 session.
Todd Titus, HARDI’s director of state government affairs, will represent the association on the voting task force. Voting members will attend meetings and directly shape the report, while auxiliary members may be invited to provide subject-matter expertise at specific meetings.
