INTARCON Launches 40 kW Transcritical CO2 Unit for Small Supermarkets

Spanish refrigeration equipment manufacturer INTARCON has launched intarCU2BE, a compact transcritical CO2 refrigeration unit for supermarkets of 200 to 800 m² (approx. 2,150 to 8,600 sq ft). It delivers up to 40 kW (approx. 136,500 BTU/h) of medium-temperature cooling capacity. The unit was one of the company’s key launches at Chillventa 2026, held in Nuremberg from 13 to 15 October. It is designed to bring transcritical CO2 technology to smaller commercial installations.

The intarCU2BE transcritical CO2 unit uses an inverter-driven scroll compressor that adjusts cooling capacity to system demand. Because of this capacity control, a single unit can follow changing medium-temperature loads in small food retail stores and does not run at fixed output.

The unit measures 800 mm (approx. 31.5 in) at its widest point. This lets it pass through standard doorways and makes it easier to fit into confined plant rooms. Limited plant room space is one of the main challenges installers face when they deploy refrigeration equipment in commercial premises.

With intarCU2BE, INTARCON expands its range of natural refrigerant equipment for commercial refrigeration. The new unit adds a CO2 option to a portfolio that already includes other low-GWP refrigerant products. The manufacturer is based in Lucena (Córdoba), Spain, and has more than 80,000 units installed in over 50 countries.
