A-Gas Extends Business Excellence Programme to Dutch Site

Lean-based initiative aims to boost efficiency, collaboration, and customer service

A-Gas has expanded its Business Excellence (BEx) Programme to its site in Eygelshoven, the Netherlands, following a successful pilot at its Rhome facility in Texas, USA. The initiative, launched in January 2023, is designed to standardise processes, improve customer engagement, and foster continuous improvement across operations.

Developed in collaboration with consultancy firm Turner & Townsend Suiko, the BEx Programme introduces Lean methodologies to optimise workflows, reduce backlogs, and enhance internal communication. At the Eygelshoven site, A-Gas teams assessed current practices, established a daily review structure, and implemented improvement frameworks focused on process consistency and customer-focused outcomes.

The programme has led to measurable gains, including faster cylinder return times, increased throughput, and better stock accuracy across multiple software platforms. Approximately 30% of employees have completed Lean Thinking Level 1A training through A-Gas’ Business Excellence Academy.

“With a goal very much around the team, the people and improving ways of working, to coach and demonstrate the methodology of Lean, it was exciting to work with A-Gas through a hands-on approach,” said Michelle Birchall, Associate Director at Turner & Townsend Suiko. “The highlight was seeing the team grow, with some becoming ambassadors of Business Excellence and leading daily reviews.”

The company reports that the initiative has improved internal collaboration and system efficiency, helping it meet customer expectations more effectively and positioning it as a supplier of choice in the refrigerant lifecycle management sector.
