AIRAH granted membership of standards Australia

The Board of Standards Australia has granted the Australian Institute of Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heating (AIRAH) membership of Standards Australia.

The nation’s peak non-government standards-development organisation, Standards Australia operates as an independent, non-government, not-for-profit organisation. The work of Standards Australia and its contributors from industry, government and the consumer sector enhance the nation’s economic efficiency and international competitiveness, and contributes to a safe and sustainable environment for all Australians.

AIRAH regularly submits proposals to improve and update various standards, and is represented on 18 Standards Committees.

AIRAH CEO Tony Gleeson, M.AIRAH, is the Institute’s initial representative at Standards Australia’s bi-yearly governance meetings. These gatherings help shape the direction and future of the Standards Australia organisation.

“It is a great privilege for AIRAH to be recognised in this way, and I look forward to improving our already strong relationship with Standards Australia in the coming year,” Gleeson says.

“AIRAH’s membership application was granted based upon our positive contribution to Standards Australia over many years. Important factors that were considered include AIRAH’s demonstrated capacity to influence and support standards developments, our breadth of focus in the HVAC&R industry, and our overall standing within the building services community.”

Standards Australia’s members are drawn from bodies and organisations involved in the development and use of standards, and have an interest in the outcomes of Standards Australia’s activities.

“Standards Australia is delighted to welcome AIRAH, a long-standing and strong contributor to standards development, to the membership of the company,” says Standards Australia General Manager Engagement and Communications, Adam Stingemore.

“The two organisations have enjoyed a strong working relationship over a number of years now, and official membership for AIRAH in Standards Australia is a natural and logical extension of this. We look forward to the liaison continuing for years to come.”

AIRAH supports Standards Australia by conducting many education and training programs centred around the promotion and application of Australian standards. Among others, these programs include the Professional Diploma in Building Services – HVAC&R; the Professional Diploma in Sustainable HVAC Design and Operation; Essential Safety Measures (AS 1851-2012 and AS/NZS 1668.1:2015); Smoke Control and Fire Dampers (AS/NZS 1668.1); Building Ventilation (AS 1668.2 and AS 1668.4).

AIRAH also promotes standards to the HVAC&R community via its various best-practice guides, Design Application (DA) manuals, publications, websites and newsletters.
