CIBSE Certification’s Embodied Carbon Verification (ECV) scheme provides independent verification of manufacturers’ embodied carbon claims for MEP products where Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) are not available. The scheme verifies CIBSE TM65 calculations and is positioned as supporting sustainable practices across the built environment.
CIBSE Certification, a wholly owned subsidiary of CIBSE, says it is the only provider of CIBSE verified TM65 embodied carbon data for MEP products. It states that the ECV scheme generates CIBSE verified TM65 data to support verification in the absence of EPDs.
According to the announcement, leading manufacturers have adopted the ECV scheme to demonstrate environmentally responsible practices for products used in heating, cooling, ventilation, lighting, electrical, and public health systems. CIBSE Certification says the scheme is intended to give the construction industry confidence that embodied carbon claims are independently verified.
Kieran O’Brien, Director of CIBSE Certification, said: “The ECV scheme generates CIBSE verified TM65 data, and gives the construction industry confidence that embodied carbon claims are independently verified in the absence of EPDs. It enables manufacturers, designers and clients to make informed, sustainable decisions and supports the drive for lower-carbon buildings.”
