Cool Up Initiative Seeks Proposals for Sustainable Cooling in Egypt

The Cool Up programme invites applications for its demonstration projects in Egypt, aiming to install energy-efficient cooling technologies with natural refrigerants. The initiative seeks to validate the technical and financial feasibility of these sustainable cooling solutions under Egyptian climatic conditions through long-term monitoring, promoting replication nationwide.

Cooling is a significant energy consumer in the MENA region. The Cool Up projects will showcase that sustainable cooling solutions in this area are both feasible and safe. Sustainable cooling technologies are defined as those with minimal environmental impact, avoiding harmful refrigerants and operating efficiently with renewable energy sources.

Applications are open until February 15, 2025, for projects within Egypt. Eligible applicants must be legally registered private sector companies eager to implement energy-efficient systems using commercially available natural refrigerant technologies. Facilities such as hotels and supermarkets across Egypt can apply, provided the projects demonstrate a viable business model for technology replacement.

Eligible cooling technologies include those utilizing natural refrigerants or no refrigerants for commercial and residential air conditioning and commercial refrigeration. Selected equipment should be compatible with existing infrastructure and services in the host facility.
