Coop Denmark, CERN, Menerga and MAGNOTHERM Win ATMO Awards 2025

ATMOsphere announced the winners of the 2025 ATMO Awards/Europe during a ceremony at the ATMOsphere Europe Summit on November 24 in Padova, Italy. The awards recognize achievements in developing and implementing natural refrigerant-based HVAC&R systems.

Coop Denmark received the Best-in-Sector/Retail End User award. As Denmark’s largest retailer, Coop has led efforts against PFAS in consumer products. Since 2015, it has implemented bans on PFAS in packaging, textiles, and cookware, and supported national and EU-level PFAS regulations.

CERN was named Best-in-Sector/Industrial End User. The European research organization is upgrading the cooling systems of its Large Hadron Collider (LHC) detectors using CO2 (R744) refrigeration. The new systems—300kW (85.3TR) for ATLAS and 500kW (156TR) for CMS—replace synthetic refrigerants and deliver temperatures down to −53°C (−63.4°F).

Menerga received the Innovation of the Year/Heat Pumps award for its CO2mpass air-handling unit with integrated CO2 heat pump. Designed for public pool applications, it offers 25kW (7.1TR) heating capacity and heats water up to 70°C (158°F). The prototype was presented at ISH 2025.

MAGNOTHERM won the Innovation of the Year/Refrigeration award for its ECLIPSE magnetocaloric cooling system. This refrigerant-free technology uses the magnetocaloric effect to provide up to 1kW (0.28TR) of cooling and is integrated into commercial units such as beverage coolers and cabinets.

The Best-in-Sector awards were selected by ATMOsphere. Innovation awards were chosen through public voting based on a shortlist prepared by ATMOsphere.
