Copeland and CRK Partner on Sustainable CO2 Refrigeration Systems

Copeland, a leader in sustainable climate solutions, has announced a partnership with CRK, Korea's premier commercial refrigeration company, to develop low global warming potential cold chain refrigeration technology. This initiative aligns with Korea's upcoming national refrigerant regulations.

This week, Copeland and CRK signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on CO2 sustainable refrigeration systems. The partnership aims to bolster expertise in eco-friendly refrigerant technology, crucial for commercial refrigeration.

"Through this agreement, we will strengthen our expertise in refrigerant technology and focus on developing eco-friendly products," said Jaik Koo, CEO of CRK. "We aim to solidify our position as Korea’s top total cold chain solution company through continuous technological advancement."

CRK has been a pioneer in refrigeration and carbon reduction technology, influencing large-scale government projects aimed at sustainable cold chain systems. This collaboration with Copeland is set to further these efforts, ensuring the development of technology compliant with regulations effective from this year through March 2028.

Copeland continues to meet the rising demand for natural refrigerants by offering solutions using R-744 (CO2). Their integrated solutions encompass subcritical and transcritical CO2 systems, semi-hermetic and scroll compressor technology, as well as controls and monitoring systems.

“With this partnership, we will jointly develop innovative low global warming potential CO2 refrigeration solutions to create a sustainable cold chain infrastructure,” said Sandeep Nair, President of Asia, Middle East, and Africa for Copeland.

Looking ahead, Copeland will provide CRK with integrated CO2 compression, control and monitoring systems, and technical support to develop CO2 refrigeration systems. The company will also support education and training in CO2 refrigeration technology.
