Energy Recovery, Inc. has announced that its PX Pressure Exchanger (PX) energy recovery device now has a 30-year design life, an increase from the previously stated 25 years. The extended lifespan is based on recent internal testing, with findings detailed in a newly published whitepaper.
The company conducted a comprehensive assessment of the PX device’s durability, which confirmed no signs of material fatigue or degradation. The evaluation considered field performance, customer feedback, design standards, and testing in seawater reverse osmosis applications.
“Our products are performing in some of the harshest conditions in seawater desalination and industrial wastewater, and our customers demand durability, reliability, and availability,” said Rodney Clemente, Senior Vice President of Water at Energy Recovery. “The most expensive water there is, is the water that you cannot produce due to downtime. With each year that our PX devices continue to exceed expectations, we’re proudly building on our strong reputation in these industries.”
The whitepaper highlights the key factors behind the extended design life: “With careful choice of materials, robust designs developed using advanced computational and analytical tools, precision manufacturing, and rigorous inspection and validation testing, PX devices in seawater reverse osmosis applications are built for several decades of operating life.”
With over 35,000 PX devices deployed in challenging seawater desalination and industrial wastewater environments, the extended design life underscores the product’s durability and reliability.
While this new design life update is specific to PX Pressure Exchanger in the water desalination industry—where Energy Recovery has been an industry leader for decades—their PX G1300 pressure exchanger for CO2 applications is built with the same ceramic technology.
