GEA opens new sustainable headquarters in Düsseldorf

GEA has inaugurated its new corporate headquarters in the “maxfrei” urban district of Düsseldorf-Derendorf, Germany. The move consolidates the company’s central functions, divisional teams, and country organizations under one roof, aiming to enhance cross-functional collaboration and support a modern, dialogue-driven work culture.

The building was designed by caspar.schmitzmorkramer and features flexible open-plan areas, quiet rooms, collaboration zones, a canteen, and a communal rooftop terrace. A green courtyard connects the building wings, offering natural light and a tranquil atmosphere. GEA emphasizes that the new headquarters reflects its commitment to social responsibility, innovation, and sustainable urban integration.

Sustainability features include compliance with the Efficiency House 55 standard and LEED Gold certification. The building is equipped with photovoltaic systems on green roofs, district heating sourced over 90% from waste-to-energy plants, rainwater retention systems, and AI-supported smart building technologies. GEA has installed 40 dedicated electric vehicle charging stations, with capacity to expand to 160.

The headquarters is part of the “maxfrei” district, a redeveloped site formerly occupied by the Ulmer Höh prison. The neighborhood follows the 15-minute city concept and includes public green spaces, subsidized housing, and a daycare center. In 2021, it received the polis Award for “Urban Land Recycling.”

“Our new corporate headquarters is a milestone for GEA and at the same time an expression of our values. Here, we are shaping the future together: with openness, responsibility and a solution-oriented mindset,” said Stefan Klebert, CEO of GEA.
