Honeywell has announced a collaboration with Cisco to create an AI-powered solution designed to optimize building systems based on fluctuating usage levels. The new system aims to significantly reduce energy consumption while enhancing worker productivity and comfort.
The partnership merges Honeywell Forge Sustainability+ for Buildings with Cisco Spaces. By integrating AI and machine learning, the solution can monitor assets and adjust heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems in real-time, applicable to both single buildings and entire campuses.
Cisco Spaces collects occupancy and environmental data from the existing Cisco network infrastructure, sensors, collaboration devices, and third-party IoT devices, eliminating the need for additional hardware. This data is then utilized by Honeywell Forge Sustainability+ for Buildings to enhance energy efficiency and provide insights into building utilization. Coupled with Honeywell's Optimizer Advanced Controller for Buildings, the system can further improve energy efficiency and resiliency.
The AI-driven system autonomously adjusts room temperatures, lighting, and ventilation based on occupancy and customer-selected controls. This automated approach streamlines daily building operations, optimizes energy use, and enhances employee comfort while monitoring greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
"Buildings have historically been a substantial contributor to overall carbon emissions," said Greg Turner, Chief Technology Officer of Honeywell's Building Automation segment. "By tapping into a building's existing technology infrastructure and harnessing AI to fine-tune heating and cooling according to zone occupancy levels, our collaboration with Cisco empowers building owners to gain control of their environment and significantly curb emissions."
This initiative is part of Honeywell's broader strategy to assist companies in reducing their buildings' environmental footprint, aligning with the megatrends of automation and energy transition. It is also supported by Cisco's Country Digital Acceleration program, aimed at building sustainable, secure, and inclusive communities through innovative technology solutions.
"The convergence of IT and OT infrastructures, seamlessly interoperable with leading building management system platforms, brings real-time data insights that can optimize energy usage," said Wes Sylvester, Vice President of Cisco's Industry Solutions Group. "Our work with Honeywell is setting a new standard for energy efficiency and reduced environmental impact."
Overall, the Honeywell and Cisco collaboration marks a significant step towards more sustainable and efficient building management.
